At Al Amal Academy, we are dedicated to nurturing young minds through a balanced education that integrates academic excellence with Islamic values. As an accredited K-9 institution, we strive to foster a supportive learning environment where students develop integrity, empathy, and a sense of responsibility towards their communities.

We believe education goes beyond textbooks, it’s about building character, instilling hope, and preparing students to be confident, compassionate leaders of tomorrow. Our partnership with Prairie Land Public School Division ensures that our students receive a high-quality education aligned with Alberta's curriculum, enriched by faith-based learning.

Excellence in Learning at the Elementary Level (K–6)

At Al-Amal Academy, we are committed to providing every child with an excellent and high-achieving education. Our staff uses innovative, student-centered approaches to ensure that each student thrives.

At the elementary level (KG to 6), we focus strongly on literacy, numeracy, and science. Our balanced literacy program develops reading, writing, oral communication, and media literacy through interactive methods such as read-alouds, literacy stations, and student-led presentations. In math, students engage in problem solving, reasoning, and mental math through differentiated instruction. Our science program emphasizes inquiry, exploration, and technology to foster curiosity and critical thinking. At the heart of our curriculum are Arabic and Islamic Studies. Our unique Quranic Arabic program helps students engage directly with the Quran, supported by tajweed, memorization, and comprehension.

Alongside, we use the Safar Publications curriculum to teach Aqidah, Fiqh, History, Sirah, and Character Development, supported by technology to extend learning at school and home. This blend of academic rigor, faith-based learning, and innovative methods makes Al-Amal Academy’s program both distinctive and challenging, ensuring excellence and high achievement for all students.

Our elementary level is comprised of two divisions:

Division One: Kindergarten to Grade 3
Division Two: Grade 4 to Grade 6

The Final Year at Al Amal Academy (Grade 7-9)

The purpose of our Junior High division is to continue providing excellence in learning while nurturing exemplary character.

By the time our students graduate in Grade 9, they will be academically strong, demonstrate beautiful Islamic character, and have formed lasting relationships with peers and teachers. This builds a strong sense of community rooted in an Islamic Canadian identity.

Junior High is a time of growth and change, and at Al-Amal Academy we emphasize building positive relationships through community circles, halaka, mentoring, student council, charity field trips, and restorative practices. These experiences create a safe and caring environment while equipping students with skills that will benefit them as they move into high school.

Our program offers the full range of Alberta Education core subjects with higher expectations and an inquiry-based approach that fosters engaged thinkers and ethical citizens. Qur’anic Studies, Islamic Studies, and Arabic remain central, while students are also encouraged to explore creativity, sports, and service to the community. Through project-based learning, extra-curricular activities, and student-centered instruction, students develop their intellectual, social, moral, physical, creative, emotional, and individual potential.

Islamic Studies & Character Education

At Al-Amal Academy, education is rooted in the universal and moral values of Islam, woven seamlessly into daily learning and practice. From morning duʿa to afternoon Dhuhr prayer, our students experience faith as a living reality, integrated across all subjects and activities.

Our character education program emphasizes four timeless virtues: Wisdom, Courage, Temperance, and Justice. Students learn to discern right from wrong, act with dignity and trustworthiness, practice moderation and humility, and treat all people with fairness and proper adab. These values are applied daily in classrooms, on the playground, in sports, on field trips, and in community life.

Faith is also cultivated through daily prayers and meaningful experiences such as Qur’an competitions, charitable initiatives, and Eid celebrations. These practices strengthen taqwa, love for Allah (SWT), and commitment to the Prophetic example, allowing students to embody Islam in both belief and action.

The cornerstone of our program is daily instruction in Islamic Studies, Qur’anic Studies, and Arabic. Using the Safar Publications curriculum, students learn ʿaqidah, fiqh, history, sīrah, and personal development while also connecting to the lives of the Prophets and Islamic civilization.

By integrating Islamic principles into core subjects such as English, Science, and Social Studies, we ensure that the Qur’an and Sunnah remain at the heart of learning and continue to shape the character of every student.

Arabic Learning & Quran

Arabic language learning is highly rewarding because it allows students to develop greater speaking and vocabulary skills. It is also essential for understanding the Holy Qur’an.

Students attending Al-Amal Academy are provided with the opportunity to learn Arabic as a foreign language from preschool to Grade 8. The curriculum for our Arabic Language Program is presented predominantly in Arabic, with English used when needed for further understanding. The learning outcomes for Arabic in each grade reflect the knowledge, skills, and attitudes students are expected to achieve by the end of each grade depending on their individual level. Ultimately, Arabic language learning focuses on meaningful activities that are structured around topics that are engaging and relevant to the students.

At Al-Amal Academy, we believe in connecting our students to the most profound text, the Qur’an, which forms the foundation of our religion.

From KG to Grade 4, students learn how to read and recite the Qur’an with proper tajweed. They are also introduced to memorization, with the goal of completing Juz Amma by the end of Grade 4. To support this, students are placed in smaller groups and continue their memorization at an individualized pace.

Beginning in Grade 5, the Qur’an program shifts to a Quranic Arabic approach inspired by Nouman Ali Khan’s Bayyinah Institute. Our main partner, GetQuranic.com, helps ensure that as students advance in their Qur’anic Studies, they approach the Qur’an with deeper understanding. The goal is for each student to be able to open the Qur’an, turn to any surah, and read with comprehension in the original Arabic.
